ABOUT THE DRUG
Docetaxel, sold under the brand name Taxotere, is a chemotherapy medication used to treat a number of types of cancer including breast cancer, head and neck cancer, stomach cancer, prostate cancer and non small-cell lung cancer. Taxotere may be used by itself or along with other chemotherapy medication. It is administered through slow injection directly into a patient’s vein.
It has been shown that Taxotere is linked to permanent hair loss in some clients, a disfiguring side effect for people already dealing with the harsh realities of fighting cancer. Other common side effects include low blood cell counts, numbness, shortness of breath, vomiting, and muscle pains. Other severe side effects include allergic reactions and future cancers.
